Challenge updates – join us, share us and watch Dom’s mum on stage!

Hi everyone, Cozzie here… it’s a busy time for us at the moment with lots of news and updates to share!

Helping Hearts before the Bristol 10k

Helping Hearts before the Bristol 10k

It was the Bristol 10k on Sunday, and in the sunshine we both managed to break our PBs! We both wished we’d done a little better, but were pretty pleased in the end….  Dom had wanted to hit the 45 minute mark, but finished in 45:58 – shaving a whopping 2 minutes 19 seconds off his previous PB!! And I managed to just beat my previous official 10k PB with a time of 49:35.  All up it was a good morning for running, and we got to meet up with the head of fundraising for Shine Together, Trevor Reid, and have some fab photos taken on College Green. You can read the full race report here.

Away from the training and exercise for a minute, Dom’s supermum, Elf, is performing with Bristol Opera company this week, in The Tales Of Hoffmann. Dom and his family have a connection with Bristol Opera that goes back more than 35 years, and the company is very kindly holding a bucket collection each night in aid of Helping Hearts. So if you fancy a bit of culture and want to enjoy some of the finest singing in Bristol, the show is on until Saturday at the Olympus Theatre at the SGS College in Filton/Stoke Gifford. Log on to for more info.

So, after our successful third challenge at the weekend, in nine days time we will be facing our fourth event – our first ever triathlon! The Human Race Eton Dorney super sprint triathlon is taking place on Sunday 19th May and we’re as ready as we’re ever going to be (shiny new bikes have just arrived, Cozzie is no longer drowning in the pool and Dom is looking to invest in some budgie smugglers…) so stay tuned to hear our progress!

Then from 30th May to 1st June it will be challenge number 5, when we’ll be scaling the three highest peaks in the UK – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales, alongside trusty companions Den and Nic from Birmingham!

Then it’s all about making speedy wheels as we gear up for cycling to Paris in July (w/c 8th July) with a training ride from London to Brighton on Sunday 16th June with Jon Spratley.

We’ve also just had some* confirmation of our entry into the Athens marathon on November 10th (*Dom’s in, Cozzie’s still waiting to hear…)

And finally we’re keen to sign up to the Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest 10k off-road-tough-as-nails race in the iconic Battersea Power station on 16th November. Teams of 5 or 10 accepted – so let us know if you’re keen to rally beside us and we’ll add you to the team list! P.S There’s a beer tent there, and apparently they got through 100 kegs last year…

Finally, a big thanks to everyone who has sponsored us so far – you’re making an incredible difference, and the staff at Southmead Hospital’s coronary care unit have been in touch to say how grateful they are. To help, visit

Phew. Thanks for reading, and don’t forget to share us with all your friends on Facebook! Over and out!
